In the first objective of this chapter, it states "Reduce foreign oil-dependence..." It makes no sense to qualify this statement with the word 'foreign' for the following reasons.
1) The negative effects of oil know no geographic boundaries: Saudi oil has the same negative carbon impacts as does US oil. As oil becomes more scarce and expensive, we need to reduce our use of it, regardless of where it comes from.
2) By using the word 'foreign' this document implies that the source of the problem is beyond US borders, but it is not. The harmful element isn't the source of the oil, but the oil itself. As an example, it would be absurd to say that a smoker is Camel light cigarette-dependent. The person has a smoking problem, not a Camel light cigarette problem. The only reason to qualify the statement would be to make it appear that the smoker's problem is somehow linked with the brand. The problem is us: we are dependent on oil. It is irresponsible to put the blame on foreigners.
Please remove the word "foreign" from this Strategic Objective.
